Faculty, Staff, Graduate Student, and Postdoctoral Scholar Ombudspersons

The Faculty Ombudsperson and Alternate Faculty Ombudsperson serve as mediators and liaisons for matters of dispute involving faculty members and administrators. They advise faculty and administrators as to appropriate courses of action; assist in the informal resolution of differences; assure that appropriate department, College and/or campus procedures are exhausted before referring a case to those at higher levels in the institutional structure; and inform the Office of the President and appropriate College or campus officials if a matter cannot be resolved at a lower level and the case is to be referred to the Committee on Faculty Rights and Responsibilities. Faculty may request to meet with either the College Faculty Ombudsperson or the University Faculty Ombudsperson.

Staff Ombudspersons provide, by appointment, a neutral, safe haven for staff to discuss on-the-job difficulties. Such an avenue for communication helps prevent misunderstandings from becoming roadblocks to work production. Problems are heard and discussed; the goal is an amicable resolution. Where appropriate, a written summary of the issues is are provided to the Human Resources Representative.
Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Scholar Ombudspersons:
Graduate students and postdocs within EMS can choose to meet with any graduate student and postdoctoral scholar ombudsperson across the College, regardless of department affiliation. Graduate Students may request to meet with either a College Ombudsperson or a University Ombudsperson.
